1940s Singalong1940s Singalong
Singalong evenings with John ‘Mr Jitterbug’ Barnes and special guests, sample life as it was before television.

Bar, snacks and hot food available.

John was born in 1927. In 1933 his mum started to teach him to play the piano. This was in the days when an evening’s entertainment meant gathering around the piano and everybody singing. Many songs from the 1890s music hall, from the West End shows and Hollywood films became popular favourites for these singalong events.

In the 1940s, after the attack on Peal Harbour and the influx of the USA service members into London, the Jitterbug became a popular dance. During the time, John played the swing numbers for his friends to dance Jitterbug in the youth club in Paddington.

No song will be repeated so get there at the start otherwise you might miss the one you most wanted to hear! Ukelele players and other musicians welcome to attend and join in some numbers!
